4 Laptop Maintenance Tips
To keep your computer happy and healthy, I recommend that you perform the following maintenance tasks regularly:
1. Apply Windows Updates
Update your operating system with most recent security patch and keep updating it regularly by enableling automatic updates. If you come across any difficulty then seek out laptop support.
2. Update your Virus Scan Software Regularly
If you don’t have virus scan software, I recommend Norton Antvirus, Panda Antivirus, BitDefender or RAR Antivirus.
And once you have contracted a virus on your computer, do the following as soon as possible:
* Quarantine! Do not share any files from your computer with anyone else.
* Run the most recently updated version of the antivirus software.
* Check for updates or patches on a regular basis.
3. Check for Spyware
Spyware are programs sneak onto your computer when you are surfing the web. They operate quietly so you don’t realize that your computer use is being tracked or that you are being targeted by advertisers. I recommend that you download and run Spybot Search and Destroy.
4. Defragment your hard disk (hard drive)
To maintain system performance you should defrag your hard drive on regular basis. To run the Windows defrag program, go to the Start button, click on Programs > Accessories > System Tools > Disk Defragmenter. This may take from several minutes to several hours depending on how large your hard disk is and how often you perform this maintenance.

My laptop was always at a temperature higher than normal, the drive also seemed to work more than usual. The problem apparently was due to a badly fragmented drive which can slow down the system quite considerably. Keeping this disease at bay will also benefit the battery consumption of the laptop.
