Acer Aspire 5920 Review

Acer Aspire 5920
The Aspire 5920G is a 15-inch screen multimedia notebook, but primarily targets gamers besed on a Santa Rosa platform and featuring 3D surround sound system and touch-sensitive media buttons. It is heavy so you won’t like to carry this one around. 3D modeling, and video editing are also easily done with such performant maschine. As a general information, it takes approximately 45-seconds for the laptop to boot completely.

When I first saw this laptop I said wow because it looks gorgeous and stylish with a pearl-white interior and shiny with LEDs and lines that seem to create an image of flowing water, plus a reflective black lid which can be opened with a unique latch that is also a 0.3 MP webcam (when the webcam turns on, a tiny green LED next to it will light up). However, this lid attracts fingerprints and that is not that gorgeous anymore. The 5920G is a rock solid laptop despite the fact that is made of plastic. As for the overall I/O Ports placement, it is impossible to use a USB stick and the optical drive at the same time.

The 5920G comes with a glossy CrystalBright screen with WXGA resolution (1280*800) - a perfect one for a 15 inch laptop, provideing crisp and very bright images, while the vertical viewing angles are not very good. Two high quality microphones are positioned on the right and left side of the webcam - cudos for this too. Also, the built-in Acer eAudio software allows users to change to different modes such as music, gaming, video etc. and toggle surround effect. The skeackers, anyway, even if better than most of the notebook speackers, still don’t have the quality of external ones.

This laptos does have a problem the touchpad is designed to “blend” with the palm rests, thus typing on the keyboard without making contact with the touchpad is impossible. Another less important issue is that during intensive gaming and benchmarking, the palm rest noticeably heats up (while the right side stays cool). Not the most silent around, but it is still fairly quiet and unobtrusive. As for the optical drive, Aside from that, it performs well and there is no vibration during operation but it gets obtrusively loud. The keyboard does express noticeable flexes but it looks so damn good and the key size is ok.
If you want to connect wirelessly, the Intel 4965AGN card in 5920G works very well with a range better than the Intel Pro 2200, for example. 3:40 minutes can be used for basic use of this laptop before recharging it’s battery.
