Dell Vostro 1700 Review
If you are planing watching videos on your laptop, Dell Vostro 1700 is a perfect choice due to the big 17″ LCD screen. It’s also good for games because of the good graphic card - Nvidia 8600M GT, plus Core 2 Duo processor. However, the dimensions and configuration of the home-video laptop has a price: it is big and heavy. Anyone concerned with battery life should probably not be looking at something as big as the Vostro 1700. To open it up you need two hands. The design offered by Dell on this model is completely black.

The horizontal viewing angles are very good, but a couple of degrees up or down and most colors look differently. The sound system can be turned very laud adding more to the “home cinema” effect on a laptop. Overall Vostro 1700 is well suited for all kind of applications, performing well in any situation. Generally very quiet, it gets very hot at the bottom. The keyboard is solid and complete, but it will take a while to get used to “where is Delete button?” - some buttons that on normal PC computers are founded down-rigth, at Dell laptops are placed up-right.

Compared to the size of this notebook, the touchpad is really small - if you don’t have small fingers, you will end up with your fingers in the scrolling area. 3 USB ports, the modem connection and the S-Video output are located at the back, wireless switch and the ExpressCard slot at the left, headphones/microphone connections, DVD drive, 8-in-1 memory card reader, IEEE 1394 (Firewire), an external monitor output, Ethernet port and two more USB ports at the right.
