Fujitsu LifeBook A6010 Review

The Fujitsu LifeBook A6010 is a 15.4″ widescreen multimedia notebook, well designed, strongly built and quite pretty, suitable for a desktop replacement. The A6010 stands out by offering a strong build, very appealing look (silver accent brush metal look on the outside and a black keyboard inside offering buttons that are easy to use and find) and good security protection. The front speakers have a nice look and the LED lights are all really appealing, leting you know this notebook is meant for a bit of multimedia fun.

The case is made of a strong plastic material, the screen hinges are tight and really hold the screen in place well and The palm rest areas are solid too. Fujitsu also provides flaps that spring back when you insert an accessory into a slot. The Intel Core 2 Duo coming inside this notebook is the “low end” 1.66GHz version, which combined with 2GB of RAM, offers very good performance, but, according to the graphic system, this is not intended as a 3D gaming notebook. The 120GB hard drive size is sufficient for a notebook intended to do multimedia.

The instant access keys at the top of the keyboard is meant for launching a browser, web search page or controlling volume which is a nice touch added by Fujitsu. The touchpad area works well and is large and wide, the mouse buttons are highly usable and the fingerprint reader positioned the middle can be used as a scroll area if you wish. The viewing angles of the screeen are not wide, so you really have to position correctly at a perpendicular angle to the screen to get the right colors, which are well saturated and bright. The A6010 does a really great job of staying cool and having a minimal noise, but playing DVDs can be problematic. This laptop offers both the PCMCIA slot and ExpressCard slot for future expansion accessories but I’m unpleased with the battery life of only 1.75 hours.
