HP Compaq 6910p Review

The Compaq 6910p “Santa Rosa” platform comes with the latest Intel Core 2 Duo processor (up to 2.4GHz speed), 1GB or 2GB of system memory (which is expandable to 4GB), and with up to 160GB hard drive configuration. As a performant business laptop, it is equipped with a fingerprint reader for biometric security and it offers a TPM integrated security chip. The notebook’s 14.1-inch widescreen 1280×800 or 1440×900 display runs over an integrated Graphics Media Accelerator X3100 or a dedicated ATI Mobility Radeon X2300. Also, the screen has rubber stoppers around it to prevent the screen from slamming into the keyboard when you close it.

The touch sensitive media buttons look nice, are silent when pressed and the lights on them are pretty. The 6910p is all business in its elegant design using only dark gray and black colors. The lid of the notebook is constructed of magnesium-alloy material and will endure the bumps of the road. The keyboard is also firm. As for the sound system, it has some of the best speakers ever heard on a business notebook. Battery life is acceptable: if you’re doing light work with screen brightness down you could probably get over 4 hours of battery life. The 6910p is fairly quiet overall, has no hot spots on the notebook, so you could easily use it comfortably and the palm rests won’t be too warm.

HP Compaq 6910p has a variety of connectivity features: 802.11a/b/g/draft-n wireless, an optional HP ev2200 1xEV-DO Broadband Wireless Module (requires Verizon Wireless Service), an optional HP hs2300 HSDPA Broadband Wireless Module (requires mobile network operator service), an optional Bluetooth, a Gigabit Ethernet (and a 56k modem which I doubt anyone uses it), 3 USB ports, PC Card slot, Secure Digital slot, VGA and S-Video outputs, Firewire, a docking connector, and a secondary battery connector (this is very helpful). The DVD SuperMulti drive does it’s job well, comparable with many others.
