LG XNOTE E200 Review
![]()
The LG E200 is a 12.1” widescreen ultra portable notebook based on Pentium Dual-Core processor and ATI RS600ME chipset, providing more than enough power for everyday use of a computer. It has a simple uniform design with pattern over the glossy black or pink cover and silver finnish on the inside. On the other hand, the build is nice and sturdy, but not as solid as a laptop from the ThinkPad series. One thing I really like about this laptops is the fact that you can make it lighter by inserting a plastic travel weight instead of having the DVD drive in (0.2Kg lighter). A key feature of this notebook is the HDMI output, which allows you to connect this notebook to an HDTV with HDMI input.
Compared to other laptops, the screen could use some improvements when it comes to brightness. Rippling is not a problem and the viewing angles are just like in any other notebook. The keyboard has a good size and keys have good travel, but the touchpad is small. However, considering the size of the laptop, it’s probably not a wonder that LG could not build a larger touchpad. For extreme performance, you can upgrade up to 4GB of RAM. Webcam and a mic is included for web conferencing with the headphone and a mic jack located at the front. Beseides the preinstalled Windows Vista, LG also provides a nice gadget for the sidebar which displays brightness, wifi connections, battery life, presentation modes, external monitor, and other modules.
As a small computer and beseides the good placement of the cooling sistem, the E200 heats up quite a bit under heavy load, also meaning that the fan will make this one not the most silent laptop around. Most of the heat will be found underneath the laptop and some on the touchpad. For an ultraportale you may expect long battery life, but it’s not so. Under heavy load (wifi & Bluetooth on, high brightness, and heavy processor load) you can get about 1 hour and 40 minutes, while the maximum time in battery safe mode is just under 3 hours.
