Sony VAIO TX850p/b Review

The Sony VAIO TX850 is a sleek little notebook (of 11 inch monitor) from Sony’s ultraportable VAIO TX line that is optimized for low end work on Windows Vista platform (Intel Core Solo processor). With the 80GB hard drive, you will not be able to store allot of movies and music on this notebook model. Is is also optimized for travelling since it has a small size, and acceptable battery life (usually between 2-3 hours). More than that, the design is eye catching, very stylish, giving a sense of professionalism. As one for the most affordable ultraportable laptops, you may consider buying it so here I go with more informations about it.

The keyboard and lower potion of the laptop is a cool grey supporting a razor-thin black housing, while the case is made of carbon fiber. The power button, is located on a raised hump near the bottom of the screen, along with a row of other multimedia buttons and an soft-eject button for the optical drive. The Wi-Fi/Bluetooth switch as well as mute and volume +/- buttons are located at the front, just below the right hand when typing. All are functional and solid. The screen feels solid, but it might ripple fairly easily if too much pressure or twisting is applied. The weakest link in therms of sturdiness is the optical drive located on the right side. The screen is glossy, crisp, vibrant, has no dead pixels, almost never glares, and has a very wide brightness range, however, quite vulnerable to fingerprints and visible dust. Onboard speakers are never the high point of a laptop, but sony’s sound is not bad at all. The silent VAIO TX gets warm faster when it’s on a wooden desk but it won’t make you sweat. The keyboard and touchpad are a pleasure to use, which is a significant factor in the long-term enjoyment of using a laptop. The one thing I don’t like is the fact that it only has 2 USB ports.
