Sony VAIO TZ90 Review

This is one of the smallest laptops around the world: 11 inch monitor, and, therefor (the use of carbon fiber and LED screen technology are also responsible for this), very light: 2.5 lbs with the standard (medium) battery, sleek, thin, sturdy. About the screen: the viewing angles can’t compete with the IPS screen of other notebooks, but the colors are more saturated and it’s a lot brighter and crisper. The power-button is located on the right side cylindrical hinge and glows green when the laptop is powered on and amber when in standby. You can choose your VAIO TZ laptop to be either Black, Premium Carbon, Bordeaux or Champagne Gold.

For uses which use mainly Internet browsing, movie/TV watching and light gaming, the lack of Santa Rosa platform on such a modern designed laptop will make no difference. The good thing about not having the latest processor type is the longer battery life. The sony VAIO TZ is also the most silent laptop. During heavy use, it does get hot near the left side, but not uncomfortably. The default battery gives 6 hours of usage, standard will give 12 hours and the extended will give 18 hours meaning that this laptop suits the requirements of road travelers.

The keyboard resembles Apple’s Macbook keyboard having well placed and sized keys, even if smaller than standard. The mouse pad is decent sized and has a rough surface to give good feedback, and, it integrates a fingerprint reader between the two mouse buttons. The laptop comes packed with the following ports and buttons: Dial-up modem/FireWire/Gigabit Ethernet concealed by a flap, Express card 34 slot, 2 USB 2.0, Headset and Mic jack, Sony memory stick slot, AV buttons, WIFI switch. Stereo speakers are located on the upper left and right side above the keyboard; they are loud and clear despite lacking in the bass area.
